A Better Way to Heliski

Less People and More Helicopters Equals the Most Fun

The Best Heli Skiing Includes:
Small Groups of 4

2 HELICOPTERS GETTING GROUPS IN/OUT OF THE MOUNTAINS

and Unlimited Vertical

Here at Skeena, we use two helicopters combined with unlimited vertical and small groups of skiers to move faster, easier, and to have way more fun. Keeping small groups also means we match you with others of similar skillsets. Fast skiers in this heli. Less fast skiers in the other. Everybody wins.

SMALL GROUP HELI SKIING

 “Small Groups in Big Terrain”

Why are small helicopters suited well for Skeena? With small groups and the more agile helicopters we can land in better, cooler spots than the larger choppers. This means more options, more terrain, and—of course—always fresh tracks. We also mobilize more efficiently, meaning everyone keeps skiing instead of waiting for the helicopter to arrive. So, join us at Skeena, where we know the more helicopters and the more space we have, the more friends we make. Most importantly, we make more turns.

Benefits of Small Group Heli Skiing
Easy to form your own group

Less waiting time

Easier to group similar ability levels

Get into tighter terrain

More untracked snow

use of 2 helicopters

Helicopters are magical machines, but not every operation uses them to their full advantage. Say goodbye to the school bus in the sky (i.e. Bell 212); we use A Star B2 helicopters, the Porsche of the heavens. They move fast and efficiently, and elevate the heli skiing experience.

At Skeena one of our advantages is that at the beginning and end of the day, two helicopters bring you and your small group into the snowy mountains. Just you and three other guests, plus the guide. By using 2 helicopters we reduce your wait time to start skiing. It means that at the end of the ski day you can stay out longer to maximize Unlimited Vertical.

And another benefit of having 2 helicopters is that we have a backup if the primary helicopter needs some maintenance.

* Note: during the ski day your group will be served by 1 helicopter.

Guides

Our guides are hugely experienced. They sit in the front in order to observe the weather, snow conditions, avalanche activity and more. Then they use this information to decide on where to ski. They also chat with the pilot to choose the ideal landing spot. For more on our guides and pilots, see the Team page.

UNLIMITED VERTICAL

What is Unlimited Vertical?

Unlimited Vertical means not paying for every single turn you make. It means not thinking about extra fees. It’s freedom from that nagging voice, because what is heli skiing if not being immersed in the moment? Be here now. Lose yourself. Ski or ride as much as you desire and pay the same price.

When you book a heliskiing package at any operation in the world, it will usually include a certain amount of metres/feet that you could ski, or it might include a certain amount of flying hours.

Packages that include a certain number of metres/feet are referred to as “vertical-based packages”, and those that include a certain amount of hours are known as “hour-based packages”.

Each type has its advantages, and these advantages are outlined in the Heli Skiing Packages page.

For vertical-based packages, the industry standard is to include 100,000 vertical feet of skiing per week. However, at Skeena we typically ski that in four days! Our weekly average is 118,110 feet (36,000m) on our Classic program, and on our Two Group package the average is 137,795 feet (42,000m), therefore our guests typically ski much more than what is included in a vertical-package. At operations that do not include Unlimited Vertical, the guest will need to pay more to ski extra vertical.

Skeena includes Unlimited Vertical, so that you do not need to pay more to ski more.

If we have bluebird weeks, we don’t hold back. We ski as much as guests want.

Small groups, the use of 2 helicopter, and Unlimited Vertical, what does it all add up to?

Less time waiting. More time skiing. Less crossing tracks. More crossing off that bucket list. Join us and you will talk about it for the rest of your life.
